to using man-made nest boxes. We'll venture outside to check out some of
the park’s nest boxes, looking for bluebirds and discussing their habitat

Book Discussion: Rachel Carson’s ‘Silent Spring’
May 27, 2007 marks the
100th anniversary of the birth of Rachel Carson, one of the world’s
foremost leaders in conservation. Her work as an educator, scientist, and
writer revolutionized America’s interest in environmental issues.
Disturbed by the profligate use of synthetic chemical pesticides after
World War II, Carson wrote Silent Spring (1962), in which she
challenged the practices of agricultural scientists and the government,
and called for a change in the way humankind viewed the natural world.
Join us as we discuss Silent Spring and celebrate the birthday of
one of Pennsylvania’s own environmental heroes.
